So there are six ruling lands each with their own gods or Kami. These are the major gods that only the royal priests are said to be able to contact.
Sun:Amaterasu
The kingdom of the light and the sun. It is referred to as being the center of the world. It's a peaceful nation and has been quite prosperous in years past. They are, however, not very close to the kingdom of the moon as this particular kingdom tries to defend against the darkness that the lunar kingdom often sends out. This kingdom is often bright and shiny, a lot of it's buildings are made from marble or gold if they're religious or imperial. They are closely allied with the kingdoms of Fire and Earth. They've got the ability to purify darkness.
Moon:Tsukuyomi
A kingdom often associated with Ayakashi and just strange magic in general. The wolves here are skilled in the dark arts. Their god is often seen as being a trickster, but he's also on the bad side of Amaterasu due to how he and his people don't seem to have much regard for the elemental balance. The ayakashi rule the night, often making it unsafe for people in other nations to go out at night as they've overrun the land. Only people from this nation can tame Ayakashi. They don't fear the creatures of the night and often coexist with these beings. Their land is unlike most others. It is covered in darkness, has plenty of forests and cave systems. It's capital is in a cold, snowy forest. They're allied with the Water nation.
Fire:Kagatsuchi
This kingdom is known for it's metal works, food, and it's courageousness. It has some of the strongest, fiercest warriors and is led by Kagatsuchi, a more hot-headed yet powerful god. Most of it's members are excellent blacksmiths or at least powerful warriors. They are adept at using fire and if they can't conjure fire, they can still make a fire innately. Temperatures are often high in their land, sweltering actually.
Storms:Fujin and Raijin
Has the ability to control wind and lightning, though this depends on the clan. There aren't many who can dual use wind and lightning, but this group of people are known to live high up, away from the other kingdoms. They live in isolation in mountains or very tall trees. Their gods are often depicted together and while Fujin is peaceful though like the wind his temperament can change, Raijin is more energetic. This nation is actually more technologically advanced due to their ability to control electricity. It's often humid here or at least cloudy or misty.
Water:Suijin
A kingdom found both underwater and on islands. It is known for it's resorts where it's actually warm at, but they also live near frozen waters. They're seafaring and great at fishing or swimming. Their strength, like the tides, depends on the position of the moon so they are closely allied with the lunar nation. They can conjure ice and water depending on where they live. Those who live further north are often best at using ice or snow while those further south use water more often. Both are good at fishing, but those up north have better iceskating skills or can travel through snow easier.
Earth: Konohanasakuya-hime
A kingdom that focuses primarily on farming, hunting, and gathering. While they raise powerful warriors, they are also peaceful. They try to stay neutral when it comes to the wars between light and dark. They have the best scenery out of everyone else as well as a mixture. They have beautiful rolling fields and forests, mountains that tower above the world, and barren deserts. They are often one with nature and their goddess is quite peaceful as well. She's known to be the softer of the kami.
